Last Wednesday I had to have surgery to remove a basil cell cancer located on the side of my nose.  I know this is no comparison at all to having lung cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, etc.  But to me the moment the doctor confirmed it was skin "cancer", I felt different.  It's that word I guess, that hovers in everyone' mind.  Even if it is skin cancer.  It's hard to imagine a family that hasn't been affected by cancer.  My brother died from lung cancer at the age of 42 in 1991.  My mother passed away in 1998 at the age of 71 with cancer of the liver.  She also had several skin cancers removed in her latter years.  I wish I could convince everyone, especially the young, how important it is to avoid sun exposure.  I know it may look good to be tanned, but in the long run, it may not be worth it.  Not only is there the risk of cancer, but it ages and wrinkles your skin.
